In October 2004, the University invited Ferran Adrià, one of the world’s top chefs, to preside this Chair, in order to give studies in gastronomic culture a higher academic profile. The idea was to bring the world of gastronomy and the university closer together and to offer courses and promote research in food sciences.

The programme comprises a comprehensive choice of training courses, research projects and publications, all focused on the educational aspects of the world of food. The aim is to demonstrate, in formal studies and the social media, that it is possible to make healthy eating and haute cuisine totally compatible.
