The Camilo José Cela Chair of Hispanic Studies was set up with the intention of creating a meeting place for research and teaching around the personality, works and the cultural enterprises of Camilo José Cela, in the wider context of the cultural, intellectual and literary life of Spain in the second half of the 20th century.

The Chair is directed by Adolfo Sotelo Vázquez, Professor of the History of Spanish Literature at Barcelona University, whose research into Spanish 20th century narrative has centred increasingly in recent years on the figure of Camilo José Cela.
