The International Federation of University Sports (FISU, in its acronym in French) has awarded Camilo José Cela University the ‘Healthy Campus’ accreditation for its merits in ensuring that their facilities are healthy and respect the environment. It is therefore the first of two Spanish universities, and the first in Madrid, to be awarded this recognition.
The Healthy Campus programme, created by FISU in May 2020, is a certification process, made up of one hundred criteria, in the field of health and wellness in all its aspects that rewards universities that contribute to the attainment of the majority of the United Nations sustainable development goals. Following a long accreditation process in compliance with the many requirements needed to meet the criteria to be given this accreditation in the silver category the UCJC has finally been included in this world ranking.
The programme also focuses on criteria such as gender equality, reducing inequalities, increasing inclusion, clean and affordable energy, sustainable community development, responsible consumption and production, climate action, partnerships and synergies between internal and external partners on campus.
The ceremony took place at the Université Libre de Bruxelles, in Belgium, along with 43 other universities that have also received this distinction. UCJC is currently, following this appointment, one of the 94 universities in the world recognised as a Healthy Campus by FISU.
“Healthy Campus contributes to a comprehensively healthy, diverse and attractive environment for students”, declared. Leonz Eder, Acting President of FISU, during the ceremony.
“The formal delivery of the first Healthy Campus seals fills us with gratitude and pride. We are extremely grateful for the valuable partnership that the universities have provided. And we are proud to have convinced many stakeholders of the importance of health being much more than the absence of disease”, he added.
Camilo José Cela University was rewarded, in this way, for its Healthy UCJC project, a cross-cutting strategy that stems from the commitment to establish a healthy, safe, sustainable and socially responsible physical and psychosocial environment for all members of the university community.
One of the three basic pillars of Camilo José Cela University is innovation linked to social commitment, with a fundamental attention to the aspects of responsibility with health, the environment and the social environment.
