Camilo José Cela University, in its commitment to assume the responsibility of educating students for the construction of a better, more humane future and, above all, in peace, has responded to Ukraine’s call for solidarity and, with the main aim to contribute to improving the living conditions of all the people who are suffering the consequences of the war, has launched some solidarity initiatives.
Among the most prominent is the Camilo José Cela University Foundation Integra Project, in collaboration with UNHCR Spain, for the care and accompaniment of refugee students. In addition, for several days there has been a collection of non-perishable food, clothing, personal hygiene products and sanitary and first aid material, organised by the students of the Degree in Transport and Logistics, and several round table discussions and information campaigns promoted by the degrees in Criminology, Psychology and Law.
Ukrainian mothers and children have also been welcomed in rural areas, through an action coordinated by teachers from the Master’s in International Education, and audiovisual materials have been created for the psychological support of child and adult victims of the war in charge of the BeWell Center from the UCJC.
The Felipe Segovia Foundation has created an emergency fund to care for refugee children who arrive in Spain through SEK families or professionals. This fund ensures the granting of the scholarships necessary for the academic and emotional care of the children fostered by members of our Community.
SEK Education Group’s close collaboration with UNICEF for over twenty years has led to two initiatives, awareness talks by UNICEF experts to explain to our students the very serious situation of 7.5 million Ukrainian children and their precarious living conditions, and the request by UNICEF for donations for them to continue in their work in protecting children and their families, and attend to urgent humanitarian needs, such as providing access to drinking water or the delivery of emergency health, hygiene and education supplies.
UNICEF has also established “Blue Points” in countries neighbouring Ukraine, these are safe spaces that provide key information to travelling families and facilitate the identification of unaccompanied children to ensure their protection.
The Russian invasion of Ukraine has mobilised the entire educational community of Camilo José Cela University to offer its aid and humanitarian collaboration with the Ukrainian people.
