SEK Education Group has appointed Emilio Lora-Tamayo as the new Rector Magnificus of University Camilo José Cela (UCJC), a mantle he will take on in the coming month of September, with the start of the new academic year.
His appointment aims to meet the challenge of leading the growth of UCJC and giving it a new academic and technological momentum necessary to ensure excellence, innovation and entrepreneurship, educational ideals evinced by the legacy of its founder Felipe Segovia.
Emilio Lora-Tamayo, Doctor in Physical Sciences from Madrid’s Complutense University and Professor of Electronics at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, boasts the scientific knowledge, experience, management skills and leadership essential to head the advanced University Camilo José Cela, with special attention given to transversal knowledge and an international vocation.
The new Rector begins this stage with the aim of including in the UCJC teaching model initiatives that bolster the process of interaction demanded by today’s society, which includes the generation and transfer of knowledge; the training and new skills for students and the technological tools necessary to encourage and promote creation, innovation and entrepreneurship.
“The changes we are experiencing, such as those produced by digital transformation, demand a flexible and transversal university like UCJC, where excellence goes hand in glove with the ability to generate knowledge and talent. And that digital transformation is not a final objective, but part of a dynamic process that is always active in which entrepreneurs play a leading role. Preparing our students for this future scenario is our goal,” said the new Rector.
Emilio Lora-Tamayo, former President of the Higher Council of Scientific Research (CSIC), former Vice Chancellor of Menéndez Pelayo International University (UIMP), a member of Royal Academies, with a long career as a researcher and creator of patents, is widely acclaimed by the scientific and academic community. He also brings a capacity for dialogue and collaboration with the international university, scientific, innovation and business ecosystem.
SEK Education Group would like to express its gratitude to Rector Samuel Martín-Barbero for his work and tireless efforts in consolidating UCJC as a university of excellence, a leading standard in the higher education sector, with principles that advocate for individual freedom, a critical spirit, teaching excellence and civic commitment.
