UCJC lecturers Juan del Coso and Beatriz Lara are currently in Anantapur, South India, taking part for the second year running in the ‘Anantapur Ultramarathon’ charity race, organised by the Vicente Ferrer Foundation with the aim of sponsoring children in the area and fighting extreme poverty.
As part of the Foundation UCJC’s work in favour of social commitment, the team of UCJC Sports Physiology lecturers, accompanied by a student, have taught an athletics course and will participate in a four-person 170 kilometre relay race. The race will feature a total of 120 runners.
The Anantapur Ultramarathon is an initiative created by Juan Manuel Viera, ultrarunner from the Canary Islands and volunteer for the Vicente Ferrer Foundation (FVF). In 2015 participants aimed to run as many kilometres as there were sponsorships in order to raise awareness of the situation of poverty that exists in India and promote the initiative for everybody in society to support the cause.
