Lidia Moreno, from University Camilo José Cela, and Iván Marrero, from the University of Seville, were proclaimed Spanish university tennis champions at the championship held at the UCJC Sports Club from 27 to 29 April. In the global university rankings the gold medal went to the University of Seville, the silver went to the Catholic University of San Antonio de Murcia (UCAM) and the University of Granada took bronze.
In the women’s individual tournament, Lidia Moreno faced Arabela Fernández of the UCAM in the final, winning 6-4 over two sets, while in the men’s individual tournament the winner was Iván Marrero, from the University of Seville, who managed to win in this rematch of the final that he lost last year, beating José Francisco Vidal, from the UCAM, by 3-6, 6-2 and 7-6 (8).
In the doubles tournament, the players of the University of Seville, Gonzalo, Chavés and Rafael Vega, won in the final against Angel Luis Centeno and Sergio Prieto, of the University of Granada, by 5-3 and 4-2. As for the women’s doubles, the UCAM players, Carmen García Pardo and Lucía Paz, beat Mª Cruz García Sánchez and Mª Dolores Sánchez Rodríguez, of the University of Granada, by 5-3 and 4-1.
The mixed doubles tournament ended with the victory of Andrea Beneroso and Héctor Marchán, of Miguel Hernández University in Elche, against the representatives of the UCAM, Lucía Paz and Manuel Semitiel, by 1-4, 4-0 and 10-7.
