The captain of the Spanish handball team, and student of the SEK International Sports Academy, has been proclaimed European champion in Zagreb (Croatia), after defeating Sweden in an exciting final by 29-23.
The “Hispanos”, as the players of the National Team are commonly known, managed to win the gold medal for the first time in history, representing a new milestone for this sport in our country, after the victories in the 2005 and 2013 World Cups. A success that is savoured even more after being on the verge of achieving it in 1996, 1998, 2006 and 2016, when Spain won the silver medal.
In addition to his worth as a player in the Spanish National Team, Raúl Entrerríos is known for embodying great values as a person. In the Marca newspaper they describe him as someone who “perfectly embodies the ideals of a great captain. Leader on and off the field. You do not have to have a strong character for it. He has single-handedly won the respect of his team-mates and the coaching team as as the best representation of what it means to lead the captaincy of a team. ”
In ‘El Español’, they also describe him as an example to follow: “He ascended the chain of command and embraced the captaincy in 2014, after winning gold at the World Championship in Spain (2013), and with Manolo Cadenas as the new coach. He learnt to pick up the microphone, to say the right thing and to speak clearly without putting his foot in it. He got his stripes and stayed true to them. He did justice to the captain’s armband. He wanted it, he took to it with pleasure and he travelled the world”.
In addition to collecting the accolades at all levels and in the Spanish sporting media, Raúl Entrerríos was awarded, in October 2015, with the “SEK Institution Award for the Best Sports Trajectory” at the Sports Gala organised by SEK Education Group.
