Camilo José Cela University takes its turn to host the 8th World Congress of the World Federation of Athletic Training and Therapy. This forum, which gathers researchers, professionals, teachers and students in the field of physical therapy and rehabilitation in sport, offers an opportunity to think and talk about fascia pathology and rehabilitation in sport. All professionals directly involved in the comprehensive recuperation of injured athletes (physiotherapists, trainers, sports physicians, health and sport professionals) are invited to the event.

At the previous Congresses in Los Angeles, Victoria (Canada), Edinburgh, Tokyo, San Antonio, Banff (Canada), Dublin, and St. Louis, WFATT members discussed various challenges to do with the globalisation of sport rehabilitation from academic, research-oriented and professional perspectives. One of the main challenges was identifying which sport healthcare professionals do the same work, in order to organise the profession and share expertise. Seventeen years after the first World Congress, Camilo José Cela University has the honour of hosting the first edition in a Spanish-speaking country, at its main campus in Villafranca del Castillo. It will be held from 29 September to 1 October 2017. Participation is open to individuals and institutions interested in consolidating the scientific standing of a discipline, sport physiotherapy and rehabilitation, which now has an important role in healthcare, education, and society in general.

Understanding the different professions in different countries strengthens and enriches the flow of information among them. In the United States, Japan, Canada, and Ireland there is a group of sport healthcare professionals known as Athletic Trainers or Athletic Therapists. This professional healthcare discipline includes prevention, evaluation, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of acute and chronic conditions and medical pathologies in sport.

The goal of this World Congress is to study the fascia and myofascial injuries in depth, including how to evaluate and treat them, and rehabilitation for the return to play. This field of knowledge includes certain key areas: the anatomy and physiology of the fascia, the physiopathology of myofascial injuries, the evaluation and diagnosis of fascial injuries, and different techniques in physiotherapeutic treatment of the fascia, whether invasive, instrumental, or manual, always in the context of sport and athletics. It will also discuss sport rehabilitation of myofascial injuries and how to prevent possible injuries. The Congress will approach all of these subjects with the ultimate goal of providing new points of view, challenges and opportunities in the exciting world of athletic recovery.
